Define the material that must be recoverable
For a two-person interview, identify which separate audio, video, screen recording and combined output must survive. A backup label does not establish two equivalent copies. This guide proposes an operational recovery plan; it does not claim every service automatically produces the same duplicate. Define the material needed to finish the edit if the preferred recording path becomes unavailable.
Distinguish Riverside retrieval paths
Riverside documents local-track uploading separately from cloud recordings. Establish what each retrieved file contains and which path supplies the source needed for editing. A cloud recording does not make local upload checks unnecessary. Before an important session, verify the retrieval operations and account conditions for the actual paths on which the production intends to rely.
Make upload completion part of closing
Assign someone to check each participant’s upload status when recording ends. Prepare the applicable official recovery instructions for an incomplete upload. Record the end of capture separately from successful source retrieval. This makes it easier to diagnose a missing file and prevents the team from treating an ended call as proof that the editor already possesses all required material.
Agree any secondary capture in advance
If adding a secondary capture, agree its purpose, retained material and storage with participants and obtain the necessary permission. Check that it actually records usable sound. Do not plan around undisclosed recording or assume duplicate capture is automatically authorized. During editing, record alignment and missing sections so the operator can distinguish the preferred source from the fallback material used.
Perform a recovery drill before relying on it
Use a short practice session to retrieve retained material and open it in the intended editor, such as Descript, checking playback and alignment. This is a file-based drill rather than a promise of automatic integration. Verify download allowance and access before changing subscriptions. Treat a stored copy as a usable fallback only after demonstrating that the production can recover and edit it.
