Trace paths to important pages
Follow paths from the home page, category and representative articles to important comparisons or pricing explanations. Sitemap inclusion does not itself establish navigable access. Compare the publication inventory with the discovered crawl set and investigate the differences.
Retain the referring source
Record both a failed destination and its referring page. A shared footer or recommendation component may be the correct repair location instead of many individual articles. Even when a final page works, inspect avoidable intermediate hops that complicate navigation and maintenance.
Check whether the anchor sets an expectation
Use text that identifies the comparison or explanation a reader will get. Add links where the additional answer helps, rather than linking every repeated product mention. Sharing a category is not enough reason to recommend an otherwise unrelated article.
Example: a page exists but has no useful contextual path
A detailed pricing explanation can remain hard to find when the product guide never points to it. Compare the inventory with useful contextual paths, then add the link where a reader encounters the pricing decision. Do not attach the same recommendation indiscriminately to every article. Walk through the resulting selection journey and check destination language and conditions as well as technical reachability.
Check for a new navigation ambiguity after the fix
A repaired destination can still leave ambiguity: identical anchors may lead to different answers, or a language switch may lose the intended article. Walk the representative entry path again and compare the heading with the promise made by the link. Do not send every question to the same product overview by default. Pricing and comparison questions may need distinct destinations. The retest should establish useful orientation as well as absence of a technical error.
Retest the reader’s route
After editing, follow the link from its real source and inspect the destination. Verify language and purpose as well as technical reachability. A higher link count is not the desired result; a reader reaching the next useful decision is.
