Reasons to choose
  • Scope work to selected files
  • Review and hand off changes through Git
  • Separate provider selection from tool approval settings
  • Review work against checkpoints
Before you subscribe
  • Separate the client from model charges
  • Do not treat estimated costs for unknown models as a billing record
  • API billing, credits and subscriptions are distinct access routes

Communicate the task boundary

Use an API validation fix and state both the target and excluded areas. Test explicit file selection as well as investigation-led scope discovery. If the change spreads into unrelated screens or database definitions, check the task description before attributing the problem entirely to a product choice.

Review proposed commands

Distinguish a test command from dependency changes and production actions. Require the purpose, target environment and failure impact to be understandable. When a tool supports broad operations, identify the smaller set your routine fix actually needs rather than treating all available operations as part of the task.

Include a recovery rehearsal

Reject one trial change deliberately and verify the actual remaining diff after recovery. Examine the Git-centered workflow and, where relevant, Cline checkpoints. Keep this rehearsal to workspace files: undoing a local patch does not establish that a remote side effect can be reversed.

Control model differences

Where possible, control the model as well as the task. If the chosen setups use different models, do not confuse model behavior with interface ergonomics. Record clarifications, retries and spending, then identify who will diagnose configuration issues after adoption. That support responsibility belongs in the comparison.

Example: rejecting and repeating a patch

In a deliberate rehearsal, reject a patch and restart from the original state with one changed requirement. Verify that unwanted edits did not remain and that the second diff is independently understandable. Rehearsing rejection once creates a practical restart point for later failures, rather than relying on a promise that recovery should be easy.

Prioritize handoff

Have another developer read the patch and repeat the checks. A detailed operation log is not a substitute for explaining the purpose of a change. Favor the workflow that consistently produces a usable issue, accepted diff and verification record, so maintenance does not depend entirely on the original operator.
