Start with an interaction question

Choose one question, such as whether a comparison control gives enough feedback. Watching recordings without a question can make an unusual action look more important than it is. Define the page, interaction and reproduction method first. Use observations to propose a testable change, rather than assuming the recording alone reveals a visitor’s intention.

Review eligibility and masking before collection

The official FAQ says not to use Clarity on sites or apps targeting people under 18. Personal information can appear outside an input field, so test masking against the actual interface. Default settings are not proof that every personalized page is suitable. Restrict the collection boundary where necessary and verify the resulting content before extending an observation exercise.

Test consent behavior as well as the banner

A visible banner does not demonstrate that the receiving service respects the choice. Test the initial, declined, allowed and changed states and check current region-specific documentation. Distinguish cookie behavior from other collection behavior. The disclosure and implementation should describe the same setup; a consent interface should not merely decorate an otherwise unchanged collector.

Example: a comparison control on mobile

Suppose readers fail to notice that a wide comparison table can scroll. Inspect the relevant mobile interaction and propose clearer cues or headings. Reproduce the problem rather than generalizing from one recording. After a change, verify the interaction and the intended next action separately. The example illustrates an investigation, not evidence that a particular design always increases conversions.

Budget review work even when access is free

The official FAQ describes ongoing free access, but setup, review and maintenance require time. Assign pages and questions to an owner and log resulting changes. If you stop using the service, review tags, consent integration and access. Preserve only necessary evidence through an authorized method before retiring the process; a recording archive is not itself a maintained improvement program.
