Split the working day into tasks
Separate completion, explanation and multi-file modification into different tests. Continue documents several assistance modes, while Cline is a candidate for tool-driven development tasks. Evaluate the tasks that occupy your working day, rather than counting features from two product pages as if they all matter equally.
Evaluate context selection
For an explanation task, track which files and selections supplied the context. Can you add missing evidence and return to the code supporting the answer? In a large project, narrowing the question may produce a more reviewable investigation than adding more unrelated context.
Choose a configuration owner
Assign responsibility for provider settings, credential handling and usage records. Agree whether developers can use different configurations or must follow a shared baseline. When a problem appears with one model, a configuration history helps distinguish a model issue from an extension or repository issue.
Compare action boundaries
For tasks involving files, commands or remote actions, inspect the effective tool policies. Test how to stop work, inspect an intermediate state and exclude unwanted scope. Acceptance should include the reviewer’s ability to recognize and interrupt unexpected behavior, not merely the agent’s ability to perform more actions automatically.
Example: explanation versus delegation
If you mostly read existing code and write changes yourself, spend more of the pilot on explanation and completion. If you mostly delegate contained changes and review diffs, weight execution and verification more heavily. Record an ordinary working day to choose those weights. This avoids selecting a product because it lists more features that you rarely need.
Choose a role before a winner
Prioritize completion and explanation ergonomics when those are the core need; prioritize diffs and execution evidence for delegated tasks. Avoid letting two tools edit the same task simultaneously during evaluation. A single change owner makes the result easier to attribute and the operational decision easier to explain.
