Prices exclude tax, currency conversion and introductory discounts. Different currencies and billing periods are not directly comparable. Japanese support can apply to input, output or the interface; check each tool’s scope.
Begin with the source material
Descript documents transcript-led editing, while ElevenLabs includes speech-generation workflows. The presence of audio features in both does not make them interchangeable. A long interview creates a selection-and-editing problem; a script without a recording creates a narration problem. Identify the input and intended output before comparing voices or headline subscription prices.
Test the job each is meant to solve
With a five-minute explainer, test removal of a recorded retake on one path and creation of clear narration on the other. Check continuity after edits and pronunciation of names and numbers. These are different jobs, so their elapsed times are not a fair synthetic benchmark of generation speed; compare how much work remains to finish your deliverable.
Compare a complete monthly workload
Build one monthly workload covering source processing, generation, revisions and editor roles, then map it into each service’s current units. Hours and credits are not directly comparable. If you combine the tools, include file handoff and final synchronization rather than assuming two subscriptions automatically produce a more efficient workflow.
Decide which trial comes first
Start with recording edits when interviews and screencasts dominate; start with narration when approved scripts need fresh speech. Validate Japanese transcription, synthesis and repair separately. Place the resulting track in the same final video and include the listening-and-correction pass in the decision, rather than picking a tool from a short isolated voice sample.
A weekly episode trial
For an interview-led weekly show, prioritize reordering discussion and removing material. For a scripted show, prioritize pronunciation and consistent delivery. Finish an episode of the same intended length under each relevant approach. The useful result is the one that reduces recurring work, not the one that demonstrates the largest number of features the production team would rarely use.
