Check whether the underlying observation exists
A reporting layer cannot necessarily recover an action never collected. Establish required observations and definitions in the collection system first. Then decide whether existing reports are sufficient or whether recipients need a combined view. Visualization does not repair missing or duplicated source events, so adding a presentation tool should follow a valid source specification.
Define the decision for the combined view
When combining visits and affiliate outcomes, align periods, time conventions and page identifiers. Label approved outcomes as records from their authoritative system, separately from observed clicks. Use headings that preserve those definitions. A combined presentation should not make two stages look like one measure or count the same result twice because it appears in multiple sources.
Review recipients and credentials
A Data Studio connection requires a separate review of report permissions and data credentials. Material visible to an editor is not automatically appropriate for every recipient. Test with the intended audience and inspect unrelated projects and unnecessary detail. Do not default to public embedding merely because the reporting product provides that capability.
Example: comparing two monthly reporting methods
For an illustrative monthly review of ten pages, first test whether the existing Analytics report supports the decision. If a separate outcomes table is essential, build one equivalent Data Studio view. Compare refresh, explanation and recipient interaction, not just appearance. Include ongoing maintenance so a more polished presentation does not silently add an unsustainable reporting job.
Hand over collection and reporting separately
Retain event definitions, destination and retention for collection; retain connections, fields, permissions and refresh procedure for reporting. Changing one layer can alter the meaning or availability of the other. During handover or subscription changes, verify required results and recipient access before removing the previous operator’s permissions. This keeps a functioning report distinct from a merely transferred file.
