Identify Personal-related spending

Personal is a free editor, while provider keys and external agents can have their own charges. Reusing an existing account still requires checking whether the connection is covered. A configuration that pays nothing to Zed can still incur spending elsewhere, so include the full provider arrangement in the budget.

Separate Pro and excess usage

The monthly Pro offer is USD10 with USD5 of included model usage and metered usage beyond it. That is not unlimited inference at the fixed subscription price. Check the selected model’s rates and spending cap and budget additional consumption separately from the recurring fee. The current hosted-usage offer applies API list price plus ten percent beyond the included balance. Reconcile this route separately from independently billed keys or external agents.

Treat Business as administration

Organization administration and inference capacity are different requirements. Do not infer a fixed per-user model balance simply because seats were purchased. Decide whether the problem is governance, consolidated billing or an individual allowance before selecting an organizational layer as a capacity solution.

Reconcile external-agent charges

An external agent has its own authentication and provider relationship. Zed’s usage view need not account for that separate invoice. Record the route used for each task and identify the billed provider, even when the visible model name resembles a model available through another route.

Example: compare two access routes

For a hypothetical pilot, perform the same contained fix with a hosted model and an existing external-agent route. Include setup, review and repair time alongside charges. Lower inference spending can still mean more total effort if acceptable work requires repeated attempts. This describes an evaluation, not a measured cost ranking.

Review independent agreements on exit

Review Zed subscription changes separately from provider or agent agreements. Preserve code and configuration and decide whether to keep the editor without hosted AI. Disabling a feature alone is not proof that a recurring contract ended; verify renewal and payment state in the account that owns each agreement.
