Start with the project you maintain

The documented Agent combines file search, edits and terminal tools. Open a small maintained project with known startup and verification procedures instead of judging only a blank demonstration. First check required extensions, debugger configuration, tests and Git operations. A useful answer does not compensate for an essential development operation you cannot reproduce. Keep environment migration separate from application changes in the first pilot. This lets you distinguish unfamiliar editor controls from a patch problem, and gives you a working setup to return to if the trial is unsuccessful.

Make the diagnosis inspectable

Supply reproduction steps, expected results and excluded areas before requesting edits. Ask for the suspected path and relevant files first. For example, a search result disappearing when an optional field is absent needs a sample record that demonstrates the defect. Inspect the caller and existing tests before accepting a change, rather than assuming a frontend adjustment repairs persistence too. Check that the explanation corresponds to code actually available in the repository. Leave unresolved assumptions explicit instead of turning a confident diagnosis into an accepted requirement.

Check the actual model entitlement

Current official documentation distinguishes the new subscription offering from legacy Pro arrangements. Plus has material model and feature restrictions and does not include third-party models. Check the required execution surface and access route as well as the model name. Record the effective plan and billed account rather than importing an allowance from an older review. For company use, a successful personal trial does not establish organizational eligibility or administration. Make this check before comparing results so you know whether the evaluated setup is the one you can actually adopt.

Hypothetical task: missing search records

Imagine a customer list where records without a department disappear from search. Prepare records with and without that field, a no-match query and an empty query. Limit the patch to the matching logic; defer redesign and dependency changes. Repeat the same checks afterward and, where practical, demonstrate that the regression check fails before the fix. This is a hypothetical evaluation, not a reported hands-on result. Its purpose is to reveal whether the proposed change repairs the specified defect while preserving the behavior users already rely on.

Budget the route to an accepted patch

Separate subscription, additional model consumption and human review or repair time. A higher subscription does not necessarily include third-party inference, so inspect usage records and the relevant spending setting. If five attempted tasks yield three accepted patches, do not budget only the final successful requests. Allocate investigation and rejected attempts across those three outcomes. This makes an upgrade decision attributable to a demonstrated capacity shortage rather than unclear requests. Keep hosting and other application services outside the editor budget unless your chosen workflow separately purchases them.

Keep action scope understandable

Use a development copy and only the configuration needed for the pilot. Reading a file, executing a command and changing remote data have different consequences. A command called a test can still contact production when configuration points there. A desktop editor also does not establish local-only inference. Verify the data destinations required by your organization and the effective action settings of the surface you use. Limit the task to operations the supervisor understands, so both the patch and the authority used to produce it remain explainable.

Handoff before changing subscriptions

Preserve the accepted code, startup procedure, verification commands and known limitations in the repository. Have another maintainer reproduce the issue and make a follow-up change without relying on your conversation history. Before ending a legacy agreement, inspect renewal and lost entitlements; separately review independent providers and integrations. Removing the editor does not demonstrate that billing ended. Confirm the contractual change in the owning account and keep an ordinary development path available. A sustainable adoption leaves the application maintainable even when the tool or subscription changes.
