Preserve the environment definition
Record languages, startup commands and dependencies in the environment definition. Manual setup that exists only inside one workspace weakens reproducibility. Evaluate both an already configured instance and a newly created one. Running the same tests in both is stronger evidence for reducing machine differences than merely observing that one browser session opens successfully.
Check the remote-runtime boundary
The code executes in a cloud-hosted development environment. Check operating-system, connectivity and credential requirements. Work involving local devices or platform-specific software needs a targeted compatibility test before adoption. Browser access establishes a way to connect, not that every requirement of the development workflow has been satisfied.
Identify who pays
Personal included usage and organization-funded environments are different arrangements. Confirm the payer when creating a workspace so collaborators understand whose budget is consumed. Include storage as well as compute in the decision and establish what happens at a limit. A free personal allowance is not a promise of unlimited organization-funded use.
Distinguish closing, stopping and deleting
Closing the browser is not stopping the workspace. Stopping ends running processes, while retained storage can still matter to billing. Preserve unfinished work before removing an unneeded environment. Make lifecycle review part of the operating process instead of assuming that a closed tab, stopped compute and deleted workspace are equivalent states.
Example: reproduce a teammate’s setup
In a hypothetical onboarding exercise, a new collaborator creates an environment from the repository and runs startup and tests with sample data. Record every undocumented step that requires the original maintainer’s help. Move reproducible setup into configuration or documentation while keeping personal credentials separate. The result should be a repeatable process, not a copied secret-bearing workspace.
Keep production ownership separate
A working development URL is not proof that a production service is ready. Define hosting, persistence and monitoring separately. For handoff, preserve code in Git, identify required data and review unused workspaces and billing. Before deletion, confirm that work you intend to keep exists outside the environment being removed.
