Separate portfolio records from stocked products

Consider a business publishing two case studies monthly and selling five learning products. A retained historical article does not mean the featured product remains available. Model case categories, related services and language versions separately from prices, delivery, stock or access periods. Use the same information on both candidates and inspect what a reader expects when moving from an article to a product. A homepage-only comparison can miss post-sale support and old prices in archived content. Start with the continuing publishing and selling plan rather than selecting a design before those responsibilities are defined.

Follow an old article to an unavailable product and verify that readers find a clear closure message and appropriate support route.

Identify which service actually handles the sale

For Squarespace, inspect the required selling features for the product type, merchant region and plan. In a Framer-plus-external-checkout design, name the service managing products, orders and refunds. A link or embed does not establish an included equivalent commerce operation. Follow purchase notification, delivery and cancellation guidance through one representative sale. On either architecture, customers should reach an accountable support route rather than being passed between a website owner and an unnamed selling service. The comparison concerns the completed operation, including surrounding subscriptions, not simply whether a purchase button can appear.

Rehearse the two recurring editor jobs

Rehearse a communications operator adding a case and a selling operator changing a price or closing availability. Even when one person fills both roles, inspect the distinct tasks. Record access, review and changes requiring the designer. Use actual role entitlements rather than a shared owner login. For two languages, include product explanations and automatic messages as well as articles. A preferred editorial interface does not remove weekly outsourced work in the selling layer. Include that remaining effort in the operating comparison instead of inferring whole-business simplicity from one comfortable editing task.

Compare the complete cost categories

List Framer Site, editors, languages and external selling costs separately. For Squarespace, fix region and billing cycle and separate the site subscription, applicable selling fee, processor and additions. Digital products should not automatically inherit the same fee assumptions as ordinary commerce. No universal starting amount for every merchant is asserted here. Model illustrative low and busy sales months to compare fixed and transaction-linked costs. Separate launch work from a normal renewal year and keep promotional savings outside steady operation. The smaller page-builder bill can otherwise hide a larger replacement selling service.

Verify exports against the actual retained material

Framer’s current guidance documents published-file retrieval and CMS export through plugins. Squarespace content export has its own scope; do not assume one file contains every design, product, order and setting. Verify text, images and categories for one case separately from a product’s explanation and selling records. Identifying exportable data and reconstructed functionality also makes a future agency change estimable. Obtaining a file does not establish that external checkout or automatic replies moved. Evaluate the retained material against what the new operator would need to continue the same publication and support earlier sales.

Choose for the dominant work and a viable exit

If the team can maintain publication and external selling separately, compare that division with all its costs. If one combined content-and-selling operation is required, weight the relevant Squarespace capabilities accordingly. Neither choice is declared universally better for rankings or revenue. On exit, preserve URLs, enquiries and outstanding orders alongside records. Squarespace cancellation can leave other subscriptions requiring review; inspect domains and bookings separately. External sales contracts in a Framer architecture also remain separate. Choose the arrangement whose owners can explain and maintain both recurring jobs, including the work left after public selling ends.
