Connect a specification to acceptance

State who needs to do what and map that requirement to an observable check. A long specification can still leave inputs and errors undefined. Inspect how Kiro’s implementation tasks connect to the requested behavior and remove extra features that do not serve the agreed objective.

Separate project guidance from task requirements

Use steering for stable project guidance and task artifacts for one change’s requirements. Assign ownership so rejected ideas and obsolete assumptions do not become permanent instructions. Keep shared guidance focused; maintainers should be able to identify the current policy without reconciling several contradictory historical documents.

Review hooks as executable automation

Hooks run actions on events, so inspect them as automation rather than passive documentation. Even formatting needs an understandable trigger. If a hook reaches a remote service or changes data, review its environment and failure effects separately from an ordinary file edit. Enable only what the pilot needs.

Decide when paid access is needed

Kiro offers ongoing free access and paid credit allowances. Check the model entitlement and consumption of representative tasks before choosing capacity. One prompt does not necessarily consume one credit, so do not equate a task count with the allowance. Assign responsibility for any additional spending you enable.

Example: specify a search feature

For a hypothetical search feature, specify name matching and returning all items for empty input. Decide case, whitespace, no-result and saved-filter behavior. Check each condition against the actual screen. The pilot should demonstrate that the specification helps identify mismatches, not merely that the agent can produce both documents and code.

Prepare for migration and cancellation

Preserve code and useful specifications in the normal repository. On cancellation, check renewal and credit conditions and handle external connections separately. If you arrived through older Amazon Q Developer material, inspect the announced IDE-plugin support ending and verify Kiro’s current setup and contract independently rather than assuming an unchanged entitlement.
