Separate summaries from review findings

Free PR access focuses on summaries, which should not be equated with paid PR reviews or every CLI and editor feature. Decide whether you need an overview or actionable defect candidates before choosing access. A successful free installation alone does not establish ongoing entitlement to the review behavior you expect.

Begin with a narrow review scope

Pilot one maintained repository and define eligible branches, drafts and labels. Observe notification volume and actionable feedback before broad rollout. If generated files dominate a patch, review the meaning of exclusions carefully. Reducing noise must not silently exclude the business-critical code you expected the tool to inspect.

Validate findings independently

A plausible failure explanation is not automatically a valid finding. Identify the input, calling path and intended specification, then reproduce the issue where possible. Preserve rejection reasons as well as accepted fixes. A tool’s approval does not replace human understanding of requirements or the tests needed to protect them.

Check cost and review limits

Distinguish month-to-month fees from annual equivalents and check seats and review limits. Manage optional extra usage separately from the base subscription. Include the time required to read and triage findings; a pilot should establish whether review latency improves rather than merely producing more notifications.

Example: triage a small review sample

For a hypothetical pilot, classify ten findings into reproduced defects, improvement suggestions, incorrect assumptions and known constraints. This is an evaluation method, not a measured accuracy claim. Record both the value of an important discovery and time lost on unnecessary changes, then decide which review scope is useful to your team.

Preserve the review process on removal

When removing the service, inspect app access, billing and required-review rules separately. Preserve accepted fixes and decision records in your ordinary engineering history. Ensure that removing an automated reviewer does not accidentally leave a path to merge without the intended human review and existing checks.
