Define the desired review outcome

Separate summaries, defect candidates, design consultation and security checks. The missing outcome may not require replacing every part of a service. Identify important human-review work and the specific automation that should support it. This keeps replacement scope tied to a real gap rather than an entire feature catalogue.

Inspect existing Copilot access

If Copilot is already available, inspect review entitlement and organizational settings. Reusing adequate existing access can avoid another integration. Do not assume completion entitlement establishes every PR-review capability, however; verify the required feature and allowance in the actual account arrangement.

Use repository investigation deliberately

A repository agent such as Claude Code can investigate the context around a diff. That is not identical to an automatically configured PR-review service. State scope, readable code and allowed checks, then require file evidence and reproduction conditions. Use it as a defined investigation rather than assuming complete policy-equivalent review coverage.

Preserve human review and checks

Type checks, tests, static analysis and human requirement review address different problems. Removing an AI reviewer should not remove those independent controls. If AI repeatedly restates reliable existing check output, reducing overlap can make the process more useful without creating a gap in the intended acceptance conditions.

Example: compare two review processes

For a hypothetical PR, record accepted findings, duplicates, misunderstandings and triage time under both processes. Independently reproduce important defects and verify their fixes. Compare the route to an understood accepted change rather than comment count so noisy output does not appear valuable simply because there is more of it.

Retire the old integration carefully

Review app permissions, seats, renewal and required-review rules when retiring the integration. Removing only a connection can leave an unavailable required check or unintentionally remove an intended review condition. Read the resulting policy and rehearse an ordinary PR before calling the transition complete.
