Separate interface and data migration
Moving interface code does not necessarily move authentication, databases, assets or email delivery. Inventory services, environment configuration, domains and stored data. Establish what must work in the destination before deciding which development environment should own later changes.
Consider browser-based development
For Replit or Bolt, verify code import, dependencies, runtime and deployment requirements in the current documentation. Recreating a screen from a prompt is different from maintaining the existing code. Test a small defect in the actual project before judging either candidate by a fresh-project demo.
Consider a repository-centered workflow
With a reviewer able to maintain source code, a repository agent such as Claude Code can support a conventional development workflow. That does not supply a complete hosting service. Assign responsibility for startup, tests, releases and incident handling before choosing this route for ongoing operation.
Rehearse operational behavior
In a migration copy, test signed-out access, ordinary users, another user’s data and administrator actions. Matching appearance can hide a changed authorization boundary or storage destination. Use non-sensitive test records and reconcile counts and required screens before changing the live destination.
Example: migrating a contact form
For a hypothetical contact-form migration, verify record counts, admin visibility and notification destinations alongside appearance. Define the cutover point so old and new submissions remain distinguishable. Use a test notification destination rather than real customers during rehearsal, then change the live configuration only after the stored and displayed results have been verified.
Compare ongoing ownership costs
Compare contracts, databases, hosting, inference and maintenance separately. A lower monthly fee is not useful if nobody can make the next required fix. Define completion as resolving the original operating problem and having another responsible person successfully make and release a follow-up change.
