Follow the order lifecycle

For a commerce-led business, compare orders, inventory, shipping and returns. Shopify is a natural candidate to evaluate around those operations, while Wix selling features should be checked against the same requirements. Product count is an incomplete measure of complexity. Test a common order and an exception, such as mixed shipping requirements or a partial return, before deciding which system reduces manual work.

Follow the service journey

A service business may need clear explanations, appointment selection and easy enquiry handling more than a complex catalog. Evaluate Wix’s relevant business features against that journey. If considering Shopify, identify how each non-commerce requirement would be delivered and whether another app is needed. The question is not whether a platform can theoretically do it, but how the finished process will be maintained.

Compare complete local quotations

Exclude temporary trials and introductory offers when calculating ongoing cost. Include a custom domain, the required business features, payment processing and recurring apps. Shopify and Wix both require attention to local plan conditions; do not compare one market’s annual equivalent with another market’s month-to-month quote. Write a first-year cash budget and a normal renewal-year budget to expose temporary savings.

Use a small business-focused pilot

Build the same representative product or service journey in each candidate and complete it on a phone. Then ask the operator to change a price or opening time and locate the resulting customer record. Choose based on the work that recurs most often. This reduces the risk of selecting an attractive template that later requires several extra tools to support everyday business.
